Cannondale was founded in 1971 in the hamlet of Wilton, Connecticut. The company name came from a train station on the Cannondale line across the road from the company headquarters – which was then located in a loft above a pickle factory.
Cannondale first product was a bicycle trailer called the “Bugger”, and through the 70’s, we were largely a camping supply and clothing manufacturer. The first Cannondale bicycles were introduced in 1983 and 1984 and set the pattern of innovation that continues to this day. Made from aluminum and featuring oversized tubing, they set a new standard for lightweight frame design.
Today, Cannondale is a global brand that manufactures and markets bicycles, performance apparel and bicycle accessories to cycling enthusiasts in more than 60 countries.
